Noted musician turned actor GV Prakash Kumar is back with a film titled, Kingston. Directed by Kamal Prakash, the film has hit the screens on March 7th. Let’s see how it is.
Story:
Set in the coastal region, Kingston mainly revolves around the a leader named Thomas and his supporter King (GVK). At a point in time, King revolts Thomas. Who is Thomas? What is his backstory? What King has to do with his village people? What happens, when King goes against Tomas? To know the secrets behind the village fishermen dying one after the other in sea, King and his friends go on the sea? What is the actual reason behind missing girls in the area? To know answer to all the questions, you have to watch the film on the silver screen.
Plus points:
GV Prakash Kumar is perfect in his role. He brought the intensity in the character through his attire and makeover.
Heroine Divya Bharathi is fine in her given role which is limited to a few scenes. One romantic song between the lead pair is good on screen.
Especially, the second half episodes where the hero and his mates goes on the sea and locks horns with the ghosts literally bring goosebumps to the audience. The action blocks during the crucial second half are designed in an unique manner which should be experienced in the theater for sure.
Other characters such as Thomas and others who did the hero’s friends roles did their part in a convincing manner.
Minus points:
Firstly, the film’s first half runs in confusing way only during the interval block the confront scene with the antagonist is good and raises curiosity among the audience.
The second half deals with the some interesting blocks during the proceedings which are expected after watching the interval block.
The cat and mouse game scenes between the hero and the antagonist in the crucial second half are good but the basement of those scenes in the first half would have handled in a convincing way. The production values for this limited budget movie are nice.
Technical aspects:
Music by GV Prakash Kumar himself is okay but more than his music GV scores with the background score. The cinematography work is good as the sea shore scenes are being shot in a convincing manner.
The editing work is not up to the mark. Other departments did their work decently.
Verdict:
In an overview, Kingston has a better second half compared to the first half. Lack of gripping treatment during the first half proceedings dilute the audience interest, but the second half proceedings make the film a decent watch.
